WHEELING, W. Va. (WTRF) – A main point of contention for the May 14th Primary Election has been the Ohio County Schools and Library renewal levies on the ballot, but the Ohio County Education Association is helping to educate and ease the concerns of voters.

They held a town hall to stress the fact that passing these levies will NOT raise taxes.

If the school levy doesn’t pass, Ohio County Schools will lose over $24 million each year that is used now for safety, transportation, extra-curricular activities, staffing and more.

Funding for the Ohio County Public Library was cut back in 2021, and the passage of the library levy will restore over $1 million for the library per year.

”We’ve always passed a school levy here in Ohio County. Taxpayers have always supported the school system and we’re looking for that support again. We have phenomenal programs from our pre-K all the way to our high school programs, all of our extracurricular academic and sports programs at Ohio County Schools. As a teacher in Ohio County, we want to provide that same service to our students and their families and passing the levy will do that.”

Jenny Craig – President, Ohio County Education Association

The Ohio County Public Library is currently funded by the Ohio County Board of Education, and the levy would provide more opportunities for materials, such as books, eBooks, DVDs, games, and more.

Election day is May 14 th , and early voting begins May 1 st and ends May 11 th .
