Brooke County, W.Va. (WTRF) – In support of Child Abuse Prevention Month, one local organization hosted a training session focused on overcoming and preventing childhood trauma.

The Brooke/Hancock Family Resource Network along with the Hancock County Partners in Prevention Team presented a training session based on a study known as the ACE’s series.

That stands for Adverse Childhood Experience and finds a direct link between childhood trauma and negative situations that result in adult life.

Monday’s workshop covered three main topics including understanding adverse experiences, overcoming them through resilience and strategies for preventing them.

“This workshop was put out for other agencies that are working with children and families in Brooke and Hancock Counties but really it’s open to anybody and we would really love to have community members come, parents that are in the community, could come in and learn about it because it’s really something that effects everybody.”

Janna Gordon, Executive Director, Brooke/Hancock Co. FRN

Anyone interested in taking part or possibly hosting an ACE’s training session should contact the Brooke/Hancock Family Resource Network.
