GENEVA COUNTY, Ala. ( WDHN ) — A grand jury has found enough evidence to formally bring charges against two people accused of trying to stab a man to death in Geneva County.

Robert Hall and Shalyn Diaz were indicted on Tuesday, April 16. They are charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of kidnapping in the near-deadly stabbing of Matthew Angelino.

According to the Geneva County Sheriff’s Office, Diaz lured Angelino onto a fake date in January, and they rode around together on rural Geneva County roads with Hall hiding in the trunk of Diaz’s car.

Investigator Cory Dean said after pulling over, Diaz convinced Angelino to wear handcuffs and a blindfold while Hall exited the trunk, snuck into the backseat, and began choking Angelino with a cord and stabbing him with a knife.

Diaz opened the door, and Hall drug Angelino out of the car by the cord around his neck and stabbed him several times on the side of the road before driving away, leaving him to die, Dean said.

Angelino was stabbed a total of 19 times.

Hall is held in the Geneva County Jail on a $250,000 bond, and Diaz is held on $100,000.
