The suspect who prompted a shelter-in-place and three school lockdowns Monday is in custody, the Gloucester County Sheriff's Office said.

Robert Paul Rosell Jr., 32, is in custody on outstanding warrants. He was wanted for being a convicted felon in possession of and brandishing a firearm after authorities say he was involved in a 'police incident.'

Just after 9 a.m., Bethel Elementary and Peasley Middle Schools initiated a lockdown in response to the incident, according to the school system.

Residents in the area of Lowneyville Lane and Pinetta Road were asked to shelter in place, according to the Gloucester County Sheriff's Office.

The schools that went on lockdown in Gloucester County were dismissed as usual Monday afternoon and still had after-school activities as normal after the morning's events, according to a post from the school system.

The sheriff's office said that officers found a weapon at the scene of the incident but that they still considered Rosell dangerous while he remained at large.

The incident took place in a nearby neighborhood, the school system said in the post, prompting the lockdowns and later secure status of the schools.

The Gloucester County Sheriff's Office thanked the public for their help in finding and apprehending Rosell.
