UPDATE (7:09 a.m. May 1): Two people have been arrested for allegedly setting fire to the Lincoln County High School baseball field.

57-year-old Lisa McClure and 32-year-old Curtis Mooney of Griffithsville were arrested Tuesday and charged with Arson, Conspiracy and Felony Destruction of Property.

Both are being held in the South Central Regional Jail.

LINCOLN COUNTY, WV (WOWK) — Officials are investigating a fire that was set at the Lincoln County High School baseball team’s dugout and lawn care storage facility overnight.

According to a Sunday post on the Hamlin VFD Facebook page, the structure is considered a total loss.

“We are at a total lost of everything inside including our field and lawn care equipment. There are investigations being made and reports were filed. This is very heartbreaking for our team,” a post on the LCHS Baseball Friends & Family Facebook page said.

LCHS has three home games on the schedule this week, and assistant baseball coach David Kaiser says they’re hoping to still host the games.

“Hopefully we can play them here, but if not we’ll still find some other way to get it done but this does not stop us from playing baseball,” said Kaiser.

Kaiser went on to say that the dugouts will need a lot of work to be ready for gameday, including replacing the damaged roof.

Kaiser said that he felt devastated when he first saw the damage, but he knows his players will stay resilient.

“Well, our players will have mixed emotions when they see it. I hope they realize that when bad things happen, you look for good things to come out of it. We’ve got a great group of kids and I’m sure they’ll do that,” said Kaiser.

The West Virginia State Fire Marshal and State Police are investigating the incident and are asking anyone with information about the following vehicle to call 1-800-233-3473 for a reward of up to $5,000 — according to a social media post from the State Fire Marshal.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help raise money for helping the team get new equipment and rebuild their dugout. The organizer of the GoFundMe says they are not affiliated with LCHS and they put it together as a parent wanting to help out the team.
