Damaged section of Route 601 closed in Somerset County

HOLLSOPPLE, Pa. (WTAJ) – A section of State Route 601 – Penn Avenue near Hollsopple in Somerset County is closed.

PennDOT announced that the road is closed from Veterans Street to the intersection of State Route 403 due to cracks on the surface of the road and damage to the shoulder. PennDOT believes the damage was caused by water escaping from an abandoned mine.

Traffic will be detoured around the closed section of road using Veterans Street and Route 403.

The closure is effective immediately and will remain in place until further notice.
