Early Voting Begins

WINDSOR — The Bertie County Board of Elections will open up for early voting from 8:30 a.m. — 5 p.m. beginning on Thursday, April 25 and ending Saturday, May 11.

The times for Saturday, May 11 are from 8 a.m. — 3 p.m.

Annual Yard Sale

WINDSOR — The Historic Hope Plantation is planning their annual yard sale from 8 a.m. — 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 4.

The Historic Hope Plantation is located at 132 Hope House Rd. in Windsor.

5K Color Fun Run slated

WILLIAMSTON — The Marin County Arts Council is planning their annual 5k color fun run beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 4.

Adult runner in advance is $25, day of the race is $30. Ages 8 — 18 are $15 and under 8 are free.

Register online with evenbrite or stop by the Martin County Arts Council.

The event will be held in downtown Williamston.

Albemarle Chorale Presentation planned

ELIZABETH CITY — The Albemarle Chorale will be presenting “A Woman’s Voice: Music by Women” at 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 5 at First United Methodist Church in Elizabeth City.

Admission is free but donations are welcome.

ROBERSONVILLE — African Dance Class will be held from 1 — 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 11 at WC Chance East End Cultural Center.

The dance learned will be performed on Saturday, June 1. There is no experience needed and all ages are welcome.

Be a Voice for a Child

WILLIAMSTON — Become a Guardian ad Litem Program volunteer to help abused and neglected children.

No specific education or experience is required to volunteer for this program; only a true desire to “be a voice for a child in the community”.

WINDSOR — East Carolina University Home Health and Hospice is currently searching for volunteers.

High School Equivalency classes are available both day and night in Williamston, Robersonville and Windsor.

Funds are available to assist qualified students with the $80 fee for taking the high school equivalency tests (formerly GEDs). All basic skills classes are free.

WINDSOR — Bertie County Veterans Affairs Officer Denise Clark acts as the local advocate for veterans, to provide information about rights and benefits.

WILLIAMSTON — The Disabled American Veterans meet on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month to file claims at the AMVETS Post 227 Building, 214 East Main St. in Williamston.

There is no charge for this service.

WILLIAMSTON — Martin Community College’s Division of Continuing Education offers online GED testing for all four competency modules: mathematical reasoning, reasoning through language arts, science and social studies.
