The Los Angeles Rams selected Miami Hurricanes safety Kamren Kinchens with the 99th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, giving them a starting-caliber safety for the next few years. What does his scouting report reveal?

Scouting Report for Kamren Kinchens

Strengths

  • Very good route-recognition
  • Very good blitzer
  • Good ball skills
  • Good awareness in coverage
  • Good run fitter
  • Special teams ability

Weaknesses

  • Average range
  • Average quickness
  • Average tackling ability
  • Average change-of-direction ability

Kamren Kinchens is a good split-field safety, with good awareness in zone coverage. His recognition ability helps make up for his average range and quickness, putting him in good position to make a play on the ball. Kinchens is capable of filling multiple roles on a defense, playing from depth and blitzing. His overall average athletic ability is a cause for concern projecting his upside, but Kinchens is a smart, capable player who was a team captain for the Miami Hurricanes and played extensively on special teams in college. He has to improve as a tackler and will have to adjust to NFL speed, but the profile is encouraging for his fit in the Rams' scheme.

Draft Grade

Kamren Kinchens was the best player they selected today and they filled their void at safety, which is more than they can say about their other picks in Day 2. Kinchens can start right away and should be a productive player in the Rams' multiple coverage scheme.
