BUTLER COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) – The Butler County Animal Response Team, known in short as BUCART, is preparing for pending severe weather headed to the area.

The team works to find shelter for pets after a storm and also coordinates rescues when needed. The team sent a deployment notice on Friday to all 17 volunteers to make them aware of the potential severe weather. This includes two veterinarians. They’re also prepping equipment.

Mandatory microchipping could free up shelters, reunite owners with lost pets

“Our logistics lead went through all of our trailers and vehicles yesterday, made sure they were gassed up, the trailers were ready, the tires were inflated, and all of the batteries were working on them,” BUCART co-coordinator Janell Jessup said.

Jessup also recommends you put together a go-bag for your pets as you would for yourself, including pet food, leashes, a crate or cage, treats and blankets.

She adds that you should keep vaccination and microchip records handy along with any medications your pet is taking.
