UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall confirmed after UFC 300 that he will be back defending his belt in Manchester in July .

UFC 304 is now confirmed for July 27 leaving the question of who Aspinall will be defending the interim belt against.

The two obvious front runners are Curtis Blaydes and Ciryl Gane as the two top contenders in the absence of Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic.

Aspinall has said in the past that Blaydes is his preferred option for two reasons, one being their history with one another after Blaydes became the first man to beat him in the UFC due to the Brit's unfortunate injury just seconds into their first meeting.

The second reason is due to his past with Gane where "Bon Gamin" refused to fight him after both men were coming off of wins .

Daniel Cormier Says Tom Aspinall vs Ciryl Gane Is The Fight He Wants To See For UFC 304

Aspinall was front row in Paris when Gane defeated Serghei Spivac last September but he refused to acknowledge the current champion after getting his hand raised.

Gane believed that he was owed a title shot at the time and once Aspinall became the interim champion at UFC 295, he wasn't willing to offer the opportunity to face him again.

In an episode of Good Guy / Bad Guy on ESPN MMA, Daniel Cormier told Chael Sonnen that this is the fight he wants to see get put together for Manchester.

He said the history between them only makes this one more exciting to him despite Aspinall choosing Blaydes instead.

"That is the type of stuff Chael, that's enough for me. That's enough for me to say I gotta see these two petty dudes fight because they're both so petty that when they got the power, it's like the dude that owns the football in the neighbourhood Chael and when he doesn't get picked first, he grabs his football and his kicking tee and he goes home. That's why I want the fight, because they're both petty and they both deserve each other because they both roll around in the mud and they both messy."
