JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio (WTRF)

April is Prevention of Animal Cruelty Awareness Month, and during this month, Jefferson County.

Humane Society reflects on all of the cases that they have seen throughout the year.
In 2023, JCHS Humane Agent investigated over 500 reports from the community.

Out of those 500, 322 animals were brought into their care.

These are before and after pictures of rescued animals, showing how far they’ve come.

Chief Humane Agent Nick Thayer says the animal’s safety and well-being is their top priority and always will be.

“He and numerous other dogs were rescued from a situation that was very deplorable. And with just that one phone call, it changed the course of the lives of all of these animals. So it’s always fun to bring back an animal after they’ve settled into their new home and knowing everything that they had gone through in their past, in their whole process to get them to where they are today, is why we do what we do.”

“The biggest thing is, so little, so small, if you see something, say something. We go out and we look into every case. That one phone call can change a life. It’s life or death.”
