SANTA ROSA BEACH, Fla. ( WMBB ) — Walton County is opening bids to allow food trucks at certain parks.

County commissioners voted 4-1 Tuesday to open a request for proposal (RFP) on potential food truck vendors.

The vendors will be vetted and selected to open up shop at Legion Park and Paradise Park in South Walton County.

If multiple bids are approved the county will organize a schedule for food trucks to operate at the sites.

Commissioner Donna Johns brought the idea forward as a pilot program for District 4 residents.

“It’s not going to be a free-for-all all where any food truck can just kind of pull in and do their own thing. They are regulated by the state and they’re self-contained. And I’ve talked to people in the county, in Freeport and in DeFuniak and in my district that already have food trucks come and nobody has one word negative to say about it,” Johns said.

DeFuniak Springs commissioner Danny Glidewell voted against the motion. Glidewell claimed some Miramar residents are not happy with the idea.

“I ask that you please allow this to happen and let’s see. If it’s a problem, we’ll address it, but I just don’t foresee that it’s going to be a problem. I think it’s a huge benefit for the citizens of the County,” Johns said.

We will update the public about when the new program starts once the county approves any for the businesses that apply.

The county will post the RFP application online in the coming weeks.
