OHIO COUNTY, W.Va. (WTRF) — There’s one levy on the May 14th ballot in Ohio County that won’t cost the voters a cent.

It’s the Ohio County Public Library levy.

You may recall that the Ohio County Board of Education cut the library’s funding in 2021.

This levy would mean the school board would again provide funds to the library.

A yes vote would allow the library to catch up on things they’ve had to do without.

It will allow us to expand our programming and our materials budget, which means we can put more books on shelves, we can buy more ebooks and e-audio books, add to new collections that we’re developing, like our Young Adult collection, our video game collection and our Library of Things.”

Amy Kastigar, Director, Ohio County Public Library

The Library of Things allows you to take out items–from board games to kitchenware to portable wifi hotspots–just like you would take out a book or video game.

The library is also the home of popular programming like Lunch With Books and The People’s University.

Gardeners take advantage of the Seed Library, and there are children’s programs every day of the week.

Proponents say a vote for the library levy won’t cost you anything but will yield great benefits.
