You want a go-to place for all things pickleball. The Palm Beach Post is it.

Full disclosure: I don't play pickleball. Have never held a racquet. Not even sure what a pickleball looks like.

But a lot of people — and more importantly, a whole lot of Palm Beach County residents — do play. And that's enough for me.

So, The Palm Beach Post decided to make good on a idea that we first began talking about more than a year ago. That's when it first dawned on me that I was one of the few folks not jumping on the pickleball bandwagon. I mean, when you run into someone from your home county at an out-of-town event who spends most of the time bending your ear about their pickleball network, it's got to be a sign.

Thus came the big idea: Make the Post the go-to place for residents (and visitors) for all things pickleball in Palm Beach County. A place they can not only keep coming back to for updated information, but make suggestions about what information they want to see added.

To be sure, the Post has been covering the explosion of pickleball facilities in the county over the past year. But this boom in development also pointed up how much there was a desire for easily accessible, updated information on the local pickleball movement.

Thanks to Post Features Editor Sonja Isger , that huge effort started this week. And you will find that Isger knocked it out of the park (or whatever the pickleball equivalent).

She enlisted Post Local News columnist and pickleball enthusiast Frank Cerabino to humbly (and humorously) explain how to get started playing, and enjoy it. Cerabino even did a TikTok video. And we have photos, lots and lots of photos.

But the star of the project is a digital map on our website that contains information on every public pickleball court in the county — including location, playing times, number of courts and even pro tips. It went online Thursday. In today's print editions, readers will find that same list (sans map) inside to pullout for keeping .

We plan to keep updating the online map with information on existing public courts, as well as any new ones that are added. (Because we're pretty sure that the boom will continue and more courts will be added.) We will also explore adding information online about upcoming tournaments, and try to develop a player rating system for courts.

Let us know what you think, and of course if you have any suggestions for other information that we can add.

Meanwhile, check out some additional stories and photos from our staff from the past week below.

I hope you continue to support local journalism in 2024 by telling a friend about us. We won't mind.
