TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Body cam video released Thursday shows the moment Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a “dangerous” double murder suspect who deputies allege killed a woman and a child .

Angel Gabriel Cuz-Choc was arrested by K-9 deputies in a wooded area between Interstate 4 and Glen Harwell Road, deputies said, about a mile and a half away from the home on Sumner Road where the victims were found beaten to death Wednesday evening.

Map shows approximate location

Cuz-Choc was discovered leaving the area of an abandoned farmhouse and barn at the 5600 block of Glen Harwell Road. He spotted an undercover detective who was watching him and fled to an area with extremely dense vegetation, according to HCSO.

“He may have been able to outrun the visual sight of the deputies that were out here, but he couldn’t outrun the scent of this K-9,” Chronister said. “The K-9 took us right to him.”

Chronister said Cuz-Choc was able to slip out of his jacket and out of the K-9’s grip. He was taken into custody after deputies reached him.

“First off, I’m glad that he’s caught but second off, it’s kind of scary,” said Peggy Slappey, who lives a half a mile from where Cuz-Choc was captured. “This is just a country neighborhood. I’ve lived here all my life. When you see activity like this you know something’s going on just because it’s not the norm.”

The two victims were identified as Amalia Coc Choc de Pec, 36, and 4-year-old Estrella Anastasia Pec Coc, according to the sheriff’s office.

“Not only did he commit an unimaginable crime which cruelly claimed the lives of two innocent victims, he then made the cowardly and ultimately futile attempt to evade capture,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. “His efforts were no match for our team of dedicated detectives who left no stone unturned in their search. There wasn’t a square inch within this perimeter that our deputies did not have covered.”

Cuz-Choc allegedly confessed to the killings in interviews with deputies after his arrest, according to the sheriff’s office. He’s facing two counts of murder in the first degree with a weapon, and additional charges are possible.

“Cuz-Choc will face the full weight of the criminal justice system for his vicious, vile, and evil actions,” Chronister said.
