Oconee Co schools land high spots in US News and World rankings

The latest rankings from US News and World Report place Oconee County’s two high schools among the tops in the country: Oconee and North Oconee high schools are in the top six percent of the more than 17 thousand schools rated by the magazine.

U.S. News and World Report ranked 17,655 schools across the country, with North Oconee and Oconee County landing among the top 6.3 percent in the nation. North Oconee and Oconee County were the two highest-rated schools in Northeast Georgia and ranked in the top 6.6 percent among the state’s 472 schools. In addition, North Oconee was selected as one of the nation’s top STEM schools.

“Being recognized again by U.S. News is a noteworthy achievement for both North Oconee and Oconee County,” Superintendent Jason L. Branch said. “This accolade reflects the unwavering commitment to excellence by our students, the lofty standards set by the teaching staff and leaders, and the extraordinary support provided by the community.”

U.S. News and World Report based its rankings on College Readiness, State Assessment Proficiency, State Assessment Performance, Underserved Student Performance, College Curriculum Breadth, and Graduation Rate.
