PIKEVILLE, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — Kentucky State Police (KSP) said troopers responded to a report of a Pike County employee who allegedly shot a gun, killed a cat, and damaged a county truck.

KSP said the judge-executive filed a complaint against Andrew Thomas Smith, 22. Around 9:30 a.m. on April 22, troopers met with the judge executive. Court documents allege that Smith had become violent at work, “beating on miscellaneous things until his fingers bled,” and used a prybar to stab multiple holes in a county vehicle.

The arrest citation adds that Smith allegedly trapped and brought a neighbor’s cat into work and asked his coworkers if they wanted a cat before exiting the room. Shortly after, county workers reported hearing gunshots and saw blood on the vehicle Smith had taken the cat to work in.

According to court documents, KSP said that Smith confessed to shooting and killing the cat while on duty.

He allegedly also made violent and sexual threats against his coworkers before being terminated from his job and arrested on April 22, according to the citation.

Smith was lodged in the Pike County Detention Center on first-degree criminal mischief, third-degree terroristic threatening, and second-degree cruelty to animals charges.
