SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. ( WIAT ) — A search is underway in Shelby County for a dog previously rescued amid the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza and brought to Birmingham.

Hadassah, one of the 17 dogs rescued, jumped the fence at her foster family’s home in Mt. Laurel, in the Dunavant Valley, area last week.

Sonya King, Hadassah’s foster mom and the director of Two by Two Rescue, said the incident happened when she dropped the leash Hadassah was on.

“I shouldn’t have done it, but we were enjoying some time together, and she flew over that fence like a deer,” King said. “She’s been gone a week, and we desperately want her back. We brought her here to save her, and now I have lost her.”

When Hadassah left, she was wearing a blue collar and dragging an orange leash.

King has been searching for Hadassah since she left, taking with her Hadassah’s stuffed dinosaur in the hope the dog would catch the dino’s scent. Additionally, a man with a thermal drone has been scouting the area for any sight of Hadassah.

“We’ve only had one sighting, so we’re asking if anybody sees her, don’t chase her; She’s scared,” King said. “We ask you just to call my cell phone number and we’ll get out there immediately.”

King said if anyone wants to volunteer in the search for Hadassah, they would love the help.

To volunteer, or report a sighting of the dog, call King’s phone number at 205-470-3933.
