Montpelier, VT –  Efficiency Vermont has unveiled a new resource for Vermonters who want to make their homes more energy efficient, and fittingly chose Earth Day to launch the service.

Vermonters can now find out if they qualify for energy efficiency programs, incentives and discounts thanks to the Incentive Calculator, a tool developed by Rewiring America – an environmental non-profit group. Efficiency Vermont hosted the launch of the new service alongside representatives from Rewiring America at the State House on Monday.

“This calculator is how everyday Vermonters will see federal incentives, state rebates, utility offers, and efficiency programs all in one place, and all customized to their home and their goals and their needs,” said Efficiency Vermont managing director Peter Walke. “This calculator will be how many Vermonters connect to discounts for weatherization, heat pumps, electric vehicles, and other green technology.”

Any Vermonter can access the Incentive Calculator at rewiringamerica.com, enter their city, zip code, income, and tax filing status to see which state and federal resources they are eligible for. Incentives are available for everything from heat pumps to water heaters to electric vehicles and chargers, making affordable energy efficient home improvements easy to find.

“It’s exciting that with just a few inputs our calculator can guide households through the amazing and lengthy incentives offered in Vermont that lower the upfront cost of electrifying homes,” added Rewiring America policy associate Amanda Sachs.

Julie Moore, Secretary of the Agency of Natural Resources noted the importance of incentives when making the switch to electric home appliances and vehicles. She explained that reducing Vermont’s fossil fuel usage is dependent on individuals across the state making personal decisions about the products they purchase.

By offering the resources to make informed decisions easier, and incentives to make energy efficient products more affordable, tools like the Incentive Calculator help move the state away from fossil fuels.

“Vermont consumers are making choices every day that impact greenhouse gas emissions for years to come,” said Moore. “Helping Vermonters have convenient, current, and tailored advice about available incentives is critical to individual buying decisions, so that navigating offers does not become an unnecessary barrier to what are often both climate and budget friendly choices.”
