HENRY COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A man died following a police pursuit in Henry County Saturday.
Deputies responded to reports of a burgundy Chevy Monte Carlo with a possibly intoxicated driver who was driving recklessly Saturday morning.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office reported deputies located the vehicle around 11:30 a.m. driving in a grass median of Highway 79 North. The vehicle continued inbound on Highway 79, driving on the wrong side of the road at times, until the vehicle came to a stop, according to authorities.
Man found dead at Clarksville Walmart One officer pulled in front of the vehicle and one officer was behind the vehicle when the vehicle then accelerated forward into the side of a Henry County Sheriff’s patrol unit, according to the sheriff’s office. Officers were then able to talk Daniel Russell out of the vehicle but once Russell was out of the car, he reportedly resisted arrest.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office reported deputies then used non-lethal options to bring Russell under control with but neither option worked Russell still resisted arrest. After a struggle, officers were able to take Russell into custody.
Russell reportedly became unresponsive during the arrest and he was taken to the Henry County Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the investigation. No additional information was immediately released.
