Scholarships available for those studying nursing

The Dorchester General Hospital Foundation Inc. is a local nonprofit supporting physical and mental health in Dorchester County through the University of Maryland Shore Health Facility in Cambridge.

It funds equipment needs and continuing education for nurses working or residing in Dorchester County and for local high school students.

The nonprofit is offering three scholarships to Dorchester County residents:

Grants are available for continuing education courses or certification of nurses living or working in Dorchester County. The Jesse Stevens Fund awards grants up to $2,000. Applications are accepted on a continual basis.Scholarships for nursing education, also under the Jesse Stevens Fund, are available up to $2,000 upon application approval. This is available for Dorchester County graduate nurses or currently enrolled nurses, as well as high school seniors entering nursing programs.$1,000 to $2,000 one-year renewable scholarships are available for Dorchester County high school seniors entering medical related programs. This is funded by the DGH Foundation and called the DGH Foundation Medical Scholarship.

The Dorchester General Hospital Foundation Inc. was established in 1988 to organize and operate a foundation exclusively for the charitable, scientific and educational purpose of supporting and encouraging quality health care, medical, human and related service in the Dorchester County community by benefitting and performing functions of the Dorchester General Hospital.
