Brian Harman has awkwardly tense interview after terrible finish

Brian Harman was not a happy golfer after his first round at the RBC Heritage Thursday.

The 37-year-old pro shot a 1-under 70 on the Harbour Town Golf Links course, but a potentially great round slipped away in the final two holes. He bogeyed the par-3 17th, then finished with a double bogey on No. 18.

So Harman, a three-time winner on the PGA Tour and reigning British Open champion, was a frustrated man when he hit the clubhouse, leading to one of the most brusque and “I’d rather be anywhere else than here” interviews you’ll see.

When asked to recap his round, Harman quickly responded, “I played good except the last two holes.”

The same reporter then asked him what he’d done the week between the Masters and the RBC (“spent the week at home with my family”). Then the reporter asked about his opening-round birdies, and Harman quickly recapped those holes.

Finally, the question everyone knew was coming: The reporter asked, “Can you walk us through the last hole there?”

“No,” Harman curtly replied. “Good? Thanks.”

No one can blame the reporter for asking the question, but you certainly can’t blame Harman for not being eager to answer it. Adding to the sting from Thursday’s tough finish is that Harman lives in St. Simons, Georgia, which is roughly 100 miles from Harbour Links, so he always has a big contingent of family and friends there. Harman also had a rough go of it at the Masters after he missed the cut, which included a shocking 47 on the back nine of Round 1.
