TOWN OF IRA, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Town of Ira man on Wednesday, April 17, after he resisted arrest for damaging a car and then punched a deputy in the head.

Tyler Noxon was arrested around 2:48 a.m. on Wednesday when deputies responded to his home for a reported car accident.

Once deputies arrived, the vehicle owner told them that Noxon had returned her car to her with damage on the passenger side and he didn’t explain what happened.

According to Sheriff Brian Schenck, the sheriff’s office investigation determined Noxon was driving on Humphrey Road near State Route 176 and left the roadway, causing damage to the car.

Deputies then returned to the residence to serve Noxon with a violation-level traffic ticket for Moving from Lane Unsafely. While explaining the traffic ticket to Noxon, he became agitated and punched one of the deputies in the head with a closed fist, causing injury.

Noxon then continued to aggressively fight with the deputies while they affected the arrest.

Noxon was charged with the following:

  • Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Assault in the Second Degree

Noxon was arraigned at CAP court later that day and is currently being held on $25,000 Cash, $50,000 Bond.

The Deputy was treated at Auburn Hospital for his injury and released.
