ALMA, Wis. (WKBT) -- A sentencing hearing for Jacqueline Britt, a woman who killed a man on a motorcycle while operating a motor vehicle under methamphetamine, took place Thursday.

According to the criminal complaint on May 31, 2022, the Wisconsin State Patrol responded to a car versus motorcycle crash on the Wabasha Bridge in the Township of Buffalo County.

Jacqueline Britt was traveling northbound on State Hwy 25 in a 2005 Dodge Magnum.

After crossing the state line, her car traveled into the southbound lane for approximately 100 yards before striking a motorcyclist head on, killing him.

Britt denied using any drugs within 24 hours of the crash.

A toxicology report later indicated that methamphetamine was detected in her blood.

According to court records, Britt pleaded guilty of homicide by vehicle while using a controlled substance.

Family members and friends of Douglas Hildebrandt appeared in court to provide their impact statements.

"Crashes happen, accident happen, but we learned that this was not an accident. This crash was preventable. The choices Ms. Britt made on May 31, 2022, have forever changed my life," said Hildebrandt's daughter.

The judge sentenced Britt to 10 years in confinement and another 10 years of extended supervision.

The restitution hearing will be held on June 19 at 2:00 p.m.
