YORK COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM)– It’s the first of its kind in the Midstate, and it opened Thursday at York County Prison.

York’s Re-entry Opportunity Center, or ROC, is a non-secure space at the prison, where people on work release can transition back into society.

The program begins before they’re released and some of those working there were once inmates.

“So I became a certified recovery specialist, which is a person with lived experience in recovery and, started helping others that way,” certified recovery specialist for ROC Justin Cravener said. “It enables me to be on the street to go to meetings with people, to be open about my own recovery with others, and help motivate other people to know that they can change too.”

Leaders officially dedicated the ROC with a ribbon cutting.
