The Price County Sheriff’s Office reported several weather related calls for the wind storms of April 16-17. Severe isolated gusts brought down trees and power lines which led to grass fires.
April 16 started out mild with wind speeds averaging 6-to-10 mph from midnight to 4:30 a.m., before average sustained winds increased to 15-to-25 mph the rest of the day with frequent gusts from 25-to-35 mph, according to the National Weather Service. On April 17 the average wind speeds stayed in the mid teens from Midnight until 5 a.m. with gusts over 20 mph. The winds finally calmed to under 10 mph with slightly higher gusts the rest of the day.
On April 16 the sheriff’s office responded to:
• 3:05 p.m., ditch fire at Sunnyside Road in Ogema.
• 3:06 p.m., tree down on County Road W in Phillips.
• 3:42 p.m., a fire call due to a downed power line in Lugerville Grade/Rock Creek.
• 3:53 p.m., tree down on County Road N in Kennan.
• 3:58 p.m., tree down on County Road F and Popple Hill in Lugerville.
• 4:06 p.m., tree down on Hick’s Landing and East Club Road in Fifield.
• 4:18 p.m., tree down on County Road I and Little Rapids Road in Kennan.
• 4:57 p.m., tree down on County Road N and White Birch Road
• 5:04 p.m., wire down at 244 2nd Ave. N., Park Falls.
• 5:14 p.m., fire call due to a power line down on Springs Drive in Phillips.
• 5:24 p.m., fire call due to a power line down on Lustila Road in Prentice.
• 5:30 p.m., tree down on County Road W in Phillips.
• 5:41 p.m., fire call for a grass fire along State Highway 14 in Ogema.
• 5:52 p.m., call related to the fire on Lustila Road in Prentice.
• 6:33 p.m., tree down on County Road H in Phillips.
• 6:57 p.m., power pole damage on Green Tree and Progress Street in Prentice.
• 7:01 p.m., tree down on Old 13 Road in the Butternut area.
On April 17 the sheriff’s office responded to:
• 8:50 a.m., wire down on State Highway 111 in Catawba.
