( KRON ) — A baby barn owl was rescued in Marin County recently after it went into the water and the incident was captured on video. According to Lisa Eiselin, who sent the video to KRON 4, the owl was about 200 feet out into the water when it was rescued.

“My boyfriend Jake brought his fishing net with him on the kayak and the poor little owl was starting to drown because his feathers got waterlogged,” Eiselin told KRON 4. “Jake paddled approximately 200 feet from my house, netted him as if he were a fish to get him on the kayak.”

Eiselin’s boyfriend got the little owl safely back to shore and wrapped it in a towel. The couple reached out to a local owl rescue, All About Owls, for advice on what to do next.

The rescue “recommended that Jake put the owl in a box so he could dry off for a day and then release him once it got dark,” Eiselin told KRON4.

When the couple released the owl, “his siblings and mom were sitting on the palm tree,” Eiselin said. “As soon as he took off, his mom guided him back to the owl box that’s on my tree.”

“The barn owl is back with mom and hopefully steering clear of the water,” Eiselin added.
