In a recent interview on The Rashad Richey Morning Show's weekly segment " Run tell that, " former Ohio State Senator and Senior Fellow at the New School Institute on Race, Power, and Political Economy, the Honorable Nina Turner , shed light on the importance of organized labor and the current challenges facing labor unions in the South.

During the interview, Senator Turner highlighted the ongoing assault on labor unions by Republican governors in southern states, particularly in opposition to the United Auto Workers (UAW) unionization campaign. These governors have issued a joint statement to intimidate workers and suppress unionization efforts, claiming that unions will put jobs in jeopardy.

Senator Turner emphasized the historical and present-day benefits of organized labor, including the fight for better wages, safer working conditions, and the eradication of child labor. She underscored the role of unions in lifting wages for both unionized and non-unionized workers, creating a higher prevailing wage and setting off a wage race to the top.

The senator also addressed the importance of collective bargaining and the protection and advocacy that unions provide to workers. She pointed out that unions hold employers accountable and ensure that workers have a voice in their workplace through negotiated contracts.

Furthermore, Senator Turner discussed the growing public support for labor unions, with 71% of Americans approving of organized labor, the highest approval rating since the 1960s. She highlighted the work of capacity-building organizations like We Are Somebody , which focuses on empowering working-class Americans and supporting their rights in the workplace.
