SANBORN, N.Y. (WIVB) — SUNY Erie’s and SUNY Niagara’s nursing programs are standing out amongst New York schools, according to a new ranking of two-year programs.

SUNY Niagara, formerly known as NCCC, said NursingProcess.org put the Niagara County school’s program at No. 10 on a list of the best New York schools for an associate degree in nursing.

“Students obtain proficiency in various concepts related to nursing such as mental health nursing, maternal/child nursing, community nursing, and nursing leadership & management,” NursingProcess.org said of SUNY Niagara.

SUNY Erie’s program came in at No. 3.

“A well-rounded curriculum, SUNY Erie State University of New York’s ADN prepares you for the complex challenges of healthcare,” the list said.

Cayuga Community College in Auburn was at the top of the list.

The schools’ nursing programs were judged on a number of factors, including the following:

  • National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) pass rate
  • graduation rate
  • availability of local clinical experience
  • academic quality

The NCLEX-RN exam pass rate for SUNY Niagara was 94.94 percent, while the NCLEX-PN pass rate (for practical nurses) was 87.50 percent in 2023.

“This ranking is a testament to our phenomenal faculty who are passionate about nursing and delivering the best possible education to our students,” said SUNY Niagara Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Diane Pytlik-Flammia.
