CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — MonPower has reported that more than 7,000 people are without power across north central West Virginia as severe weather strikes the region Wednesday night.

According to MonPower’s outage map, around 7,800 customers across north central West Virginia were without power as of 10:02 p.m. with 4,753 being in Marion County alone. Many outages are estimated to not be repaired until 1 a.m. Thursday at the earliest.

Wednesday night’s outages come after a power line was knocked down and fell across U.S. Route 50 east of Salem the previous afternoon, knocking out power for hundreds in the area.

A 12 News reporter has said that stoplights in the area of Emily Drive and the Interstate 79/U.S. Route 50 interchange are out as of 10:20 p.m. with law enforcement on-scene directing traffic.

Stormtracker 12 Chief Meteorologist Justin Kiefer reported that many of the tornado watches affecting the region have been lifted as of 10:30 p.m. with only a few severe thunderstorm advisories remaining in the area.
