NORTH DAKOTA ( KXNET ) — Take a moment and think about your bucket list, now think about the one thing you want to cross off that list. What is it?

According to a news release, many Americans want to cross off early retirement. However, a newly published study shows the most popular bucket list item by state, ranging from writing and publishing a book to seeing the Northern Lights.

So, what are North Dakotans wanting to cross off? It’s seeing the Northern Lights — and those who live in California, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, and Missouri seek to do the same. And really, who wouldn’t want to see those beautiful colors dance in the sky?

However, nine states — Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, New Jersey, Tennessee, Texas, West Virginia, and Wisconsin — all want early retirement. There are many reasons for this choice, including more nature-related adventures, time for relaxation, or wanting to get the heck out of dodge.

Other bucket list items include building a dream house, hitting a fitness goal, solo traveling, learning a new language, writing and publishing a book, going on a meditation retreat, getting a career-boosting certificate or degree, starting their own business, having an art exhibition, going on an African safari, planting and watching a tree grow, and hiking a major trail.
