BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – An inmate appeared in Broome County Court on Tuesday and admitted to smuggling drugs into the Broome County Jail.

District Attorney Paul Battisti announced that Dreyshawn McDonald, 37, of Binghamton pled guilty to Promoting Prison Contraband in the First Degree prior to the start of trial.

On February 28, 2023, McDonald was found in possession of cocaine while housed at the Broome County Jail.

Inmate charged with assault at Delaware County Jail

McDonald is facing two to four years in prison. He will be sentenced on July 16.

“Smuggling drugs into our jails demonstrates a blatant disregard for the safety and security of correctional facilities, as well as the well-being of both inmates and staff. Those who choose to engage in such reckless and illegal behavior will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” said Battisti.
