McCain was being held on a felony first-degree criminal contempt charge for allegedly violating an order of protection. Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Superintendent Jack Purdy told NEWS10 in an email the investigation is ongoing and there is no evidence to suggest that it was a suicide.

Police said officers immediately called 911 and tried to revive McCain alongside medical staff, Schenectady Fire Department, and Mohawk Ambulance. McCain’s next of kin was notified and he was transported to Ellis Hospital, pending a post-mortem exam.
