Homers, gems and steals: Vote for IndyStar softball players of the week (April 8-13)

IndyStar will be recognizing the top softball players in Indiana with our players of the week poll.

Congratulations to Bishop Chatard's Anni Felts on being voted Player of the Week for April 1-6! Felts finished off a 9-for-11 week with a 5-for-5 effort vs. Covenant Christian that included two runs and two RBIs.

Here are this week's nominees.

Weekly Wrap: All 'finally clicking' for Noblesville ace; Cathedral bounces back, more

Krystin Davis, Lapel

The senior helped lead the Bulldogs to their first county championship in program history. She collected three hits (including a triple), three RBIs and scored two runs in a 15-2 rout of Anderson, then drove in a pair of runs and scored thrice on three hits (including a second triple) against Pendleton Heights. Davis also doubled and scored a run against Frankton, and totaled four stolen bases on four attempts for the week.

Sofie Easterhaus, Westfield

The sophomore upped her season average to .480 with a 4-for-4 showing vs. Cathedral that included a pair of runs scored. She stole a base vs. Brownsburg and registered a putout and an assist in the field vs. Cathedral.

Gabby Fowler, Noblesville

Fowler helped the Millers to a pair of wins, driving in a run and scoring once herself in a 4-1 win over Fishers, then logging two hits, two RBIs, and two runs scored (with a homer) in a 12-8 win over Lawrence North. The senior is batting .600 on the season.

Rylan Gick, West Lafayette Harrison

Gick out-dueled Hamilton Southeastern, tossing a three-hit shutout that included 16 strikeouts. She went the distance against Rossville, as well, pitching a two-hit shutout with another 16 strikeouts. The senior allowed two runs on four hits with eight strikeouts over five innings vs. McCutcheon.

Maley Jordan, Hauser

The junior went 3-for-3 against Columbus East with a home run, two doubles and two RBIs. Jordan currently leads the team with a .556 batting average.

Harper Moore, Beech Grove

Moore went 6-for-7 with four runs scored in a Saturday sweep of West Vigo and Edgewood at the Beech Grove Invite. She accounted for four of those hits in a 7-3 win over West Vigo, then drove in a run and scored once herself in a 2-1 win over Edgewood.

Gabby Peck, Lawrence North

The senior catcher drove in six runs as part of a 2-for-3 performance vs. Noblesville that included a double and a home run.

Shelby Rakosky, Mt. Vernon

Rakosky went 7-for-8 with three RBIs and three stolen bases in a doubleheader vs. Columbus East. She pitched the second game, picking up nine strikeouts and allowing only three hits over seven innings.

Hermione Robinson, Columbus East

Robinson hit .556 with a .600 OBP, three doubles and a home run for the Olympians, who finished the week 2-1. She also pitched 14.2 innings, striking out 25 batters and walking only two.

Addison Stieneker, Shelbyville

Stieneker homered twice in three at bats vs. Yorktown, totaling seven RBIs in the win. She also went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI against New Castle.

Grace Swedarsky, Hamilton Southeastern

The sophomore pitched eight innings, striking out 15 batters and issuing zero walks. She has a 1.27 ERA and 65 strikeouts through 33 innings pitched this season.

Ashley Sylvia, Brownsburg

Sylvia batted a combined .428 and lifted the Bulldogs to two ranked wins with walk-off singles against then-unbeaten Westfield and Class 3A power Tri-West. She's batting .423 on the season with eight RBIs, a homer and two doubles.

Angela Valentine, Cathedral

Valentine capped a big week with a two-run go-ahead home run in the bottom of the sixth to lift the Irish to a win over Westfield. She sealed the victory with a double play at third base in the seventh. Valentine finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and was perfect in the field with three putouts and three assists.

Brooklyn Willis, Eastern Hancock

The Royals played two games last week and Willis came up big in both, batting .857 (6-for-7) with two doubles, a triple, a home run, six RBIs (four of which came with two outs) and six runs scored. She also drew a couple walks and stole four bases.

Ava Zachary, Penn

The junior Notre Dame commit maintained her torrid pace to the season, batting 11-for-16 across four games with two doubles, two triples, eight RBIs and nine runs scored. Zachary, who went 8-for-9 vs. Center Grove, is batting .590 with 20 RBIs this season.
