Then & Now: Do you know where this is?

The Worcester County Druggists Association gathered at a country hotel on Sept. 8, 1922. Mortars and pestles were set aside.

For the group's annual reunion, a day of fun was prescribed.

The hotel — pictured in this week's Then photo, from about 1900 — was a popular destination for business and pleasure at the turn of the 20th century.

After an early dinner, the off-duty druggists headed to a nearby field for a game of baseball. But first, teams had to be chosen. It was soon determined that married men would be on one side, the unmarried on the other.

In a seven-inning game, it was the bachelors who delivered the proper dose of athleticism, winning the spirited showdown.

After likely recounting their exploits over cocktails, the druggists spent the evening at the hotel.

The hotel, built in 1896 by the Hamilton family, had a relatively short existence.

It burned in 1927.
