PHOTO GALLERY: Volunteer sweeps team titles

BLOUNTVILLE — Volunteer track and field swept the boys and girls team titles at County Line Battle 2024. The meet was held Tuesday, April 9, at West Ridge High School.

In the boys team standings, the Falcons amassed 130 points to West Ridge’s 99. East (66) was third, Cherokee (56) fourth and Tri-Cities Christian Academy (14) fifth.

In the girls team standings, the Lady Falcons finished with 130 points to West Ridge’s 97. Cherokee (65) was third and Sullivan East (52) fourth.

Cherokee took a partial team to the meet and met several running goals. A number of Cherokee athletes recorded personal bests at the event, including Kolden Singleton who set a school record in the triple jump.

Here are top six individual and relay performances by Hawkins County student-athletes.

VOLUNTEER BOYS

Roman Borghetti-Metz won the 800 with a time of 2:04.46 and won the 1600 with a time of 4:41.06.Jordyn Winegar-Collis won the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.26, was second in the 300 hurdles (45.17) and second in triple jump (39-00.25).Lucas Gilliam won the high jump with a mark of 5-10 and was third in triple jump (38-10).Kasey Brown won the shot put with a throw of 54-10.50.The VHS 4x200 relay team won with a time of 1:37.93.The VHS 4x400 relay team won with a time of 3:53.90.Kevin McCurry was second in the 800 (2:10.49) and the 1600 (4:47.75).Carter Manis was second in the 3200 (11:00.07) and third in the 800 (2:11.76).Jackson Clonce was second in discus (141-00) and fourth in shot put (45-00.50).Grant Winegar was third in the 100 (11.79), third in pole vault (7-06) and fourth in the 200 (23.86).John Ross was third in the 300 hurdles (46.90).The VHS 4x800 relay team was third (10:26.21).Isaac Jennings was fourth in the 800 (2:15.70) and fourth in the 1600 (5:02.23).Joshua Hathaway was fourth in the 3200 (11:25.50).The VHS 4x100 relay team was fourth (49.98).Brandon Begley was fifth in the 400 (56.54).Alex Polk was fifth in the 110 hurdles (19.85) and fifth in pole vault (7-00).Jacoby Hyatt was fifth in discus (105-08).

VOLUNTEER GIRLS

Jacie Begley won the 800 with a time of 2:24.59 and the 1600 with a time of 5:27.76.Lillie Bullock won the 3200 with a time of 13:00.59 and was third in the 800 (2:36.77).Taylor Boggs won the 300 hurdles with a time of 52.04 and was third in the 100 hurdles (17.74).Rhyann James won the high jump with a mark of 4-08 and was fourth in the 100 hurdles (18.91), fifth in long jump (14-06.50) and fifth in shot put (26-00.10).The VHS 4x100 relay won with a time of 54.48.The VHS 4x200 relay won with a time of 1:54.68.Alli Hostetler was second in the 100 (13.64) and third in the 200 (28.32).Belle Fritts was second in the 200 (28.12) and fourth in the 100 (13.85).Aliah Laster was second in the 100 hurdles (17.08), second in discus (89-11) and third in long jump (15-04).Lauren Payne was second in triple jump (25-02.75).Allyssa Gent was second in the 1600 (6:22.15) and fifth in the 800 (2:53.73).Raya Kochemba was third in the 400 (1:11.76).Lillie Bullock was third in the 800 (2:36.77).The VHS 4x400 relay was third (4:53.74).Kadey Brown was third in discus (89-11) and fourth in shot put (26-03.75)Cayden Gent was fifth in the 400 (1:12.89).

CHEROKEE BOYS

Lofton Hayes won the 100 with a time of 11.49 and was second in the 200 (22.97).Trey Smith won the 300 hurdles with a time of 43.11 and was second in the 110 hurdles (17.18).Kolden Singleton won the triple jump with a leap of 41-07.The CHS 4x100 relay team was second (45.99).Jhay Sulit was second in pole vault (8-00).Isaac Bryan was fourth in the 110 hurdles (19.19) and fourth in triple jump (38-00.50).Ashton Lowry was fourth in discus (121-08) and fifth in shot put (41-09.75).The CHS 4x200 relay team was fourth (1:42.58).Adonis Kincaid was fifth in the 3200 (12:42.12).

CHEROKEE GIRLS

The CHS 4x400 relay won with a time of 4:37.64.Katie Mowell won the pole vault with a mark of 6-06.Leah Mowell won discus with a throw of 106-09 and won shot put with a throw of 35-06.Elizabeth Coward was second in the 800 (2:36.29).The CHS 4x100 relay was second (55.17).The CHS 4x200 relay was second (1:56.79).The CHS 4x800 relay was second (11:35.94).Julina Allen was third in the 3200 (14:47.65).Aniyah Bandy was third in the 300 hurdles (56.65).Emily Cuthrell was fifth in the 200 (29.54).
