During the first week of April, law enforcement located a homicide and bombing suspect deceased at a Lake County campground in Colorado.

According to the Summit County Sheriff's Office, their department was called to assist the Lake County Sheriff's Office when a homicide and bombing suspect out of Mesa County was believed to be at a local campground. The specific role that the Summit County Sheriff's Office played in the situation was providing aerial support in the form of a drone.

Upon investigation of the scene, the suspect was located in his vehicle, deceased in an unspecified self-inflicted manner.

The suspect in that case was presumably a suspect linked to an April 5 incident that took place in Mesa County's Palisade, which involved a large explosion at a six-unit apartment and the death of an 18-year-old.

On April 10, the Mesa County Sheriff's Office announced that the suspect in the Palisade case had posted disturbing videos to social media that indicated he was responsible for the fire, with authorities ultimately tracking his phone to Dexter Point Campground on the edge of Twin Lakes. As noted by Mesa County authorities, when the Lake County Sheriff's Office followed the cell phone tracking, the suspect in the Palisade case was found deceased, having taken his own life.

In the Palisade case, investigators have since been able to determine that the apartment fire was started intentionally. Evidence revealed the use of an accelerant in ground-level unit number one, with the explosion related to "a high volume of vapors from the accelerant within that apartment." No evidence links the explosion to a bomb or illicit drug lab at time of publishing.

The suspect's motive in the Mesa County case remains unknown, with authorities stating it may never be known following the suspect's death.
