Fatal home fire in Long County

LONG COUNTY, Ga (WSAV)- The Long County Sheriff’s Office and State Fire Marshall are investigating an early Monday morning home fire in Long County.

On Monday, at 5:53 a.m. a call came into the 911 center of a home on fire in the 600 block of Thickette Road.

According to Long County Fire and Rescue Chief, Chris Moss, the homeowner had called 911 and told the dispatcher his porch was on fire, and he was going into the residence to retrieve his pet dog or dogs.

When the fire units arrived, Moss said the home was fully engulfed in flames.

Once the fire was knocked down, they discovered the body of the homeowner.

No other information has been released. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
