If you have a dog, you are likely aware of how easily they can manipulate us. Many dogs have this gift and know how to use it cleverly. They often use their powers when we may not be paying close attention to what they are doing, showing their high intelligence level.

In a video recorded on March 17, an adorable Basset Hound named Franklin is trying to work his magic. Though he looks like he wants to go outside for a potty break, he has other plans. Wait until you see how clever he is!

Aww! Franklin knows his cute ears can help him get what he wants, so he uses them to his advantage. Similar to how a human might bat their eyelashes to get something they would like. In this case, he wants some dog treats . He’s doing his best to train his humans to be more responsive to their needs. So he casually walks over to the kitchen cabinets, gets to sniff the goods, and then paws at the door to go out as if that’s what he wanted all along! Unfortunately for him, his human is onto this game, so they recorded his adorable antics instead of getting him a tasty snack. It’s a tough life.

Are All Bassets Food Motivated?

Pet parents everywhere report that they are. The ASPCA describes Basset Hounds as “Dedicated foodies” who will pull out all the stops to get another bite. Ha! However, they caution this breed is prone to being overweight and obesity-related problems , so keeping the treats to a minimum is essential for their long-term health and well-being.

Pet parents confirmed their Bassets also attempt to score treats. Viewer @KacieMarken responded, “I trained them that if they go outside and don’t bark or howl, they get a treat when they come in. Sometimes, they insist they have to go out three times in an hour for less than a minute.” They catch on fast. Viewer @CassidyAmandaDuck remarked, “Mine runs under the bed when I’m trying to leave, and I have to get the chips out, so he will go in his kennel.” They are experts at training us to do their bidding. Another parent reported, “My Basset learned to open the refrigerator and microwave.” Oh, boy! That must be a serious problem if no one is home.

If your dog has also trained you to get them a snack, you know you’re not alone. They are all masters of manipulation who use their adorable traits to get whatever they want. If we had these powers, we would do the same thing.
