You may have noticed them over the past few months. Large, white, unmarked buses with only a DOT number on the side on I-85 as well as other interstate highways that cross South Carolina.

Greenville County Sheriff Hobart Lewis says each of those buses usually has about 50 occupants that have crossed the Texas/Mexico border. Lewis said "Some get off and go into these convenience stores and stay here and some get back on the bus".

Sheriff Lewis was a guest on the Tara Show Thursday morning and estimates between 1200 to 1400 are passing through Greenville County each month.

Sheriff Lewis said some legislators in Columbia are working to pass legislation that would give sheriff's the same authority as South Carolina transport police under federal guidelines, to make traffic stops and take action if illegal immigrants are being transported.

You can hear Tara's entire interview with Sheriff Lewis below.
