Central Pennsylvania counties awarded $6 million for projects

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WTAJ) — Counties across Central Pennsylvania have received grants to assist in transportation and infrastructure repairs

In total, the counties received $6 million in grants and awards. Below is a breakdown of each county, the amount received and what the money will go towards.

Cambria County

Ferndale, Portage and the Richland school district were awarded $1 million through the Multimodal Transportation Fund.

The Ferndale Borough will receive $170,235 to rehabilitate the sidewalk along Ferndale Avenue. $248,000 will go towards the Portage Borough to install lighting along the sidewalk within Crichton McCormick Park. The Richland school district will receive $625,000 to improve transportation circulation at the elementary and high school.

Dale, Brownstown and Franklin boroughs also received $1 million that will go towards road and bridge repairs in the area. $443,800 will be used to make repairs to the Maintenance Building Bridge, the Anne Street Bridge and the Pedestrian Bridge in Dale Borough.

Brownstown will use $200,000 to improve roads within the community and Franklin will be receiving $300,000 to reconstruct Pine, Locust and Spruce streets.

Centre County

Centre County was awarded $1.6 million in state funding to help rehabilitate four roads in the area, in an effort to make the roads safer for drivers.

The Philipsburg Borough will receive $309,989 for construction along Powder Magazine Road and Port Matilda Highway. Taylor Township will use $200,000 to repave South Mountain Road and Rush Township will us $104,000 to make improvements along Medical Center Drive.

College Township was awarded $500,000 that will help construct a shared-use path along East College Avenue from Puddintown Road to Hastings Road. $118,688 will be used for ongoing rehabilitation to Kato Road in Snow Shoe Township.

The grants will also fund Phase Two of the Bitner Hollow Road-Middle Road project.

Blair and Huntingdon County

Blair County, Huntingdon County, Franklin and Frankstown Township as well as the Hollidaysburg Borough were awarded $1.25 million in state grant funding for three major projects.

In Blair County, D Holdings has been awarded $500,000 to fund the installation of rail lines and facilities as part of the third phase of the DeGol Industrial Center Rail Expansion and Cross Dock Facility Project. In addition, the Hollidaysburg Borough will receive $400,000 in grant funding to construct the Canal Basin Park Gateway Connector Bridge.

In Huntingdon County, Franklin Township has been awarded $350,000 to replace the Graysville Cemetery Road over Spruce Creek.

Somerset County

Somerset County was awarded $1.1 million in grants for three projects focused on safe and effective transportation for the community.

$244,801 was awarded to the county to help repair the Lower Humbert Covered Bridge in Lower Turkeyfoot Township. The Borough of Boswell received $491,401 to build sidewalks and crosswalks along Ohio Street.

The Redevelopment Authority of Somerset County received $300,000 to complete the final phase of sidewalk restoration along Main Street.
