In 2023, The Greater Lansing Area Development Board of Directors (GLAD), a 501c3, voted unanimously to begin a new program within the organization that would partner with other non-profits in Ashe County to help support local families in the 28643 zip code. The GLAD Tidings Program, headed up by Rene Shuford, sponsored its first project in December 2023 that delivered Christmas gifts to students at Blue Ridge Elementary. In January 2024, the decision was made to do a quarterly project throughout the year. In the first quarter of the year, GLAD partnered with The Motherboard, a non-profit led by Keshea Roland and her Board of Directors. A diaper drive was organized, and a monetary donation of $1,000 was made. The Motherboard provides diapers, personal care products, events and clothing to those in need. Although named The Motherboard, this organization also supports single fathers and grandparents raising children in Ashe County.
