HONOLULU (KHON2) — Wednesday we will have fair weather with some more cloud coverage and possibly a few isolated, brief showers.

The high temperature will depend on how much cloud coverage you see in your area, but for the most part, the high will be near 80° for most.

There is a weak upper-level disturbance over the eastern half of Hawaii and this will be around into early Thursday. This will give us a little more cloud coverage and possibly a few light showers.

Potential Concerns

The biggest concern is the high surf along north and west-facing shores. A high surf advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Wednesday evening. Expect surf up to 20 ft on north-facing shores and up to 14 ft on west-facing shores. The high surf will gradually lower through Wednesday and Thursday. Later this week an upper-level low should develop east of the Big Island, then cross over the Big Island Friday night into Saturday.

This may cause some unsettled weather in the form of moderate to heavy rain and windy conditions while the low is passing over Hawaii County.

Right now, the weather models are indicating that will occur Friday night into Saturday morning, but this may change a little with forecast updates over the next few days.

What happens next may be a little hard to predict, but the low may just linger to the west of the Big Island before weakening Sunday through Monday and Tuesday, then push off to the east. That would be the best solution, but if that low goes over Hawaii Sunday into Monday, instead of lingering to the west, some areas may see moderate to heavy rain.

Possible Windy Conditions

With a high-pressure center to the northeast of the Hawaiian island chain this weekend into early to mid-parts of the workweek next week, winds should increase into the windy category by Saturday.

Winds generally out of the east, may be 20 mph to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph to 45 mph.

Debris on roads, along with possible downed small tree branches and/or palm fronds, as well as other small debris may litter portions of some roadways.
