According to The New York Times , Chinese immigrants have been increasingly spotted at the border. Per the Times report, “more than 24,000 Chinese citizens have been apprehended” at the southern border, representing a number greater than in “the preceding 10 years combined.”

Experts connect the alleged surge to Chinese nationals fleeing the regime of President Xi Jinping .

While people often associate migrants at the border with people from Central and South America, thousands are from China.

According to Customs and Border Protection , 24,048 Chinese citizens were apprehended at the Mexico border over the 2023 fiscal year, more than 10 times the 1,970 arrests recorded during the 2022 fiscal year.

Approximately 100,000 of the 1.3 million people on final orders to be deported from the United States are Chinese nationals, The New York Times reported.
