George "Funky" Brown, the renowned drummer and co-founder of Kool and the Gang, passed suddenly on Friday at the age of 74. Lung cancer, a struggle that Brown bravely fought in Los Angeles, was listed as the cause of death. The loss of a self-taught musician who was instrumental in creating the band's distinctive sound and co-writing some of their most well-known songs is being felt by both the music industry and fans.

Not only was George Brown a drummer, but he was also one of the initial components of Kool and the Gang, a group that came out of the thriving New Jersey music scene in 1964. Jersey City was all part of the city, which meant that it included the minority and its struggles.

In 1969, Kool and the Gang's self-titled debut album marked the beginning of their journey. Still, the album "Wild and Peaceful," released in 1973, was the one that shot them to fame because of the catchy groove of "Hollywood Swinging." Successes later on, including the platinum record "Ladies' Night" in 1979, cemented their place in music history.

Brown's influence went beyond the recording studio and stage. In the book "Too Hot: Kool & the Gang & Me," which was published earlier this year, he openly discussed his battles with prescription medication and depression. This information gave the legendary image of the music business a more relatable face. A tremendous chapter in Kool and the Gang history came to an end in August when Brown made his retirement public, realizing that he needed a well-earned break.

The group left a continuing impression on music of all genres; Jay-Z, Beastie Boys, Madonna, and Janet Jackson were among the artists who included samples of their music in their compositions. Brown emphasized the ageless and all-encompassing appeal of Kool and the Gang's sound while expressing his deep gratitude for the extensive repurposing of their song.

Finally, Brown's family has asked that donations to the Lung Society of America be made in place of flowers, highlighting the significance of spreading awareness about lung health. It entices individuals to enjoy themselves at the clubs. And we carry that out. We bid farewell to George "Funky" Brown, a happy maestro whose beats will always make people happy who enjoyed the music he helped create.
