Steve Alembik, 72, attempted to kill his wife, Dawn Polen Silver, by shooting her in a Florida restaurant parking lot on Oct. 9. But when Silver managed to escape, Alembik turned the gun on himself.
Silver survived, while Alembik died of his injuries.
Before the incident, Alembik had shared pictures of himself and Silver at various events on his Facebook page, displaying what appeared to be a happy life.
The images included pictures of him and Silver smiling at a " Brain Bowl " competition and a similar photo at another event.
In February, he also shared a link to a fundraising page to benefit the UF Shands Children's Hospital earlier this year.
"Anything helps!" he wrote.
Silver also shared many photographs of her and Alembik on social media, including images from their wedding (dated 2019) and other getaways .
The channel identified Silver as a Licensed Clinical Psychologist specializing in addiction who studied advanced psychology at Cornell University, the University of Michigan, and Pennsylvania State University.
Alembik's motive for attempting to kill Silver is still unknown.
According to the Daily Mail , sources said he struggled with mental health and had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
But he faced severe backlash in 2018 for posting a tweet that called Obama the n-word, prompting Florida GOP Senator Rick Scott to reject his donations.
Although DeSantis initially claimed he wouldn't accept Alembik's money, he continued to do so despite the controversy.
On Facebook, some posted tributes to Alembik after hearing he died by suicide, with conservative personality Laura Loomer remembering him as a " wonderful, and kind-hearted man ."
It is unclear whether she knew of his attempt to take his wife's life.
Silver underwent emergency surgery but remains in critical condition, a spokesperson for the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office told The Messenger.
Police did not immediately respond when contacted by The Messenger for updates on Wednesday.
