EWING, N.J. (December 2, 2022)  – First-year Gabby Tyer finished first in the 500-yard freestyle to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology women's swimming team to first place through six events at the TCNJ Invitational Friday at the TCNJ Aquatic Center.

Tyer completed her swim in 5:18.24 to set a new collegiate personal-best, which also marked the second-fastest time in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) to date. First-year Amanda LaFrancois took fourth in the event with a time of 5:21.85.

The Ducks totaled 287 points through six events to hold a 10-point lead over the hosting Lions, with the United States Merchant Marine Academy (193) and SUNY New Paltz (180) finishing in third and fourth place, respectively.

On the men's side, sophomore Edward Platonov took fourth in the 'A' final of the 200-yard individual medley and first-year Amedeo Bove took second in the 'B' final as the Ducks totaled 204 points to place third among the four competing teams through six events.

"Really solid first night for both teams," head coach Adam Schneider said. "Our women's 500's were really exceptional, highlighted by Gabby Tyer's win in that event. The men had some very nice IM's all around. Both our men and women had some great relays and we are looking and feeling good and excited for the remaining two days."

The Ducks' 200-yard freestyle relay team of sophomore Kai Wong, first-year Adriana Bertolotti, classmate Gabby Sokolik and junior Keenan Yates took second with a time of 1:41.47, trimming more than two seconds of the team's previous fastest time. On the men's side, the quartet of first-year Leo Timmermann, graduate student Ali Kolenovic, first-year Will Stibor and Platonov jumped into fourth place in the MAC with their time of 1:27.44.

Sophomore Sophie Patz was the top finisher for the Ducks in the 200 IM, finishing second with a time of 2:12.46, narrowly missing out on a new personal best (2:11.62 as last year's MAC Championships), but setting a new conference best.

Wong (25.18) and Yates (25.25) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 50 Free, while the 400 Medley Relay team of Wong, Bertolotti, first-year Natalia Brunetti and Sokolik took third with a time of 4:04.65.

Up Next: Day two kicks off at 11 a.m. with the preliminary races with the finals beginning at 6. A total of 14 finals will be contested - seven for each gender. A link for live video is posted to StevensDucks.com.
