SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The 11th annual Bears in the Air event kicks off at the South Bend International Airport on Friday.
Community stakeholders gathered in the airport's atrium on Tuesday to donate the first bears to this year's program.
The Bears in the Air party will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday inside the SkyWest Airlines hangar at the airport.
Anyone ages 21 and older can attend.
A $30 per person entry fee is required, which purchases a teddy bear for a child in an area hospital and helps veterans at the Robert L. Miller Sr. Veteran's Center.
Guests can enjoy a light buffet, cash bar, music, and door prizes at the event.
“It’s nice for us to give back, you’re right about it being the season to give and children in hospitals, it’s gotta be a terrible place for anyone to be but children especially," said David Sage, Vice President of the Airport Board. "And then again, veterans at the Miller Center are in special need of help and we’re happy to provide that. They all have something for our country so it’s good for us to give back something to them.”
