Huawei Mate X3 tipped to launch soon as a new flagship foldable smartphone
Huawei made the slightly puzzling decision to ditch the cutting-edge design of its Mate X2 flagship to resurrect that of its very first foldable smartphone instead in 2022. The Mate Xs 2 may have launched for less, yet comes with the potential drawback of having its 7.8-inch display constantly exposed due to its wrap-around design.
However, things might change around again in the next generation of Huawei foldable smartphones. According to the Weibo account of Wangzai Knows Everything, it will launch as the "Mate X3" and, thus, return to its forebear's Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4-like ways, with a cover display and rear panel to protect its main ~8-inch display when not in use.
The tipster now intimates that this device has a mass-production-ready prototype that has, moreover, been passed on to further departments within Huawei for its future development. Therefore, it may be here before too long.
The putative phablet is projected to be more affordable in its 3rd generation, not the least because it may have to go with a 4G/LTE-only version of the top-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor.
Nevertheless, despite that potential boost to performance, it may still have to contend with new rivals such as the Honor Magic Vs and OPPO Find N2: new mobile flagships that are or are tipped to launch as the world's lightest, thinnest and yet most powerful foldables to date.
