The Arizona Diamondbacks have placed starting pitcher Zach Davies on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation, the team announced Tuesday.

In a corresponding move, the D-backs recalled reliever Sean Poppen from Triple-A Reno after sending him down Sunday to make room for LHP Dallas Keuchel.

Davies suffered the injury during his outing on Saturday, when he pitched five innings against the Detroit Tigers in a 6-3 loss.

In his first season with Arizona, Davies has a 2-4 record to go with a 3.94 ERA in 15 starts.

June had been the best month of the regular season so far for the Gilbert native, registering a 2.56 ERA in five starts.

The righty was slotted to pitch on Wednesday against the San Diego Padres.

As for Poppen, the veteran reliever is back in the big leagues, where he’s made 22 appearances out of the bullpen.

Sporting a 2.91 ERA and a 1-1 record for the season, Poppen has had a strong month where he’s seen action in nine games.

Poppen has pitched 8.0 innings out of the bullpen in June, but did give up an earned run in his last outing on Friday.

With the absence of Davies, the D-backs face more questions in their starting rotation that just added Keuchel to the mix on Sunday.

Davies joins RHP Humberto Castellanos (elbow) as starting pitchers on the D-backs’ injured list.

The D-backs host the Padres on Tuesday at 6:40 p.m. with coverage on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
